WordPress: Do I Build by Hand or Drag-and-Drop or Both
I’ve spent over twenty-five years developing websites by hand. Now I’m having to rethink that. Let me tell you what I have discovered.
The Federal Government and corporations, large and small, have only recently begun to buy into the open-source movement. My last contract with the government, which only ended a couple of months ago, open source was really only used around the edges. The critical pieces are still being handcrafted.
When I began my move to B2C websites, the very low prices expected were quite a shock. When I began researching the platforms these sites were built on, I discovered the preponderance, 30–40%, were built with WordPress.
I’ve found the best way, for me, to research something is to use it. I had two sites to work on. The first is a fairly simple legal site for my grandaughter’s practice. The second is a much more complicated site for my daughter’s spa.
I had already written a Svelte, compiled Javascript, legal site. Being fairly straightforward, I decided to convert this to WordPress. The conversion was mostly copying from Svelte code to WordPress pages.
