Web Site Issues

New WordPress web site with constant malware and phishing attacks. What I did and what I’m going to do.

Last year I signed up for unlimited WordPress websites, with security (SiteLock basic plan), for less than $200 for three years with BlueHost. What a deal. It wasn’t long before I discovered web pages being placed on the account that pirated my URL. As I was just using the sites for development work, sharing the sites with clients for feedback, I just cleaned up the sites and moved on.

Later I started getting malware attacks, minor ones at first and then major attacks. BlueHost runs site scans and suspends any site where malware was found. It got to the point all of my web sites were involved. I had to delete the sites and reload from my local development.

I did/do all of my WordPress development locally using Local and then using a WordPress plugin, All-in-One WP Migration, to publish the relevant BlueHost site. That keeps all of my local sites code, clean and secure.

I had decided to stop creating client sites, trading time for money. So I started thinking about just dropping BlueHost. After my last major malware attack, I just created a placeholder site for my main URL, no real functionality, until I decided what to do. I had one web site, sort of, up.
